The Regency Bridge Club was founded in the late 1960s (some say it was the 1950s). Such notable players as Hermine Baron frequented our club. We have had several owners, three locations and quite a few players. Pat Abbey began playing at the Regency in the 1960s, buying the club periodically when it needed leadership and then selling it. Around the year 2000, Pat became the permanent owner and manager, working tirelessly to maintain our club. Pat’s enthusiasm for bridge was contagious, and her gifts as a teacher helped many to embrace the game.
In 2014, after her unexpected passing, we renamed ourselves the Pat Abbey Regency Bridge Club. We will remember Pat for her wit, intelligence, warmth, and generosity. We continue to emulate Pat’s dedication to serious bridge (but not too serious) among friendly people.
Pat Abbey, our matriarch, is circled in green in the photograph below.
